This regulation involves marking, dimension and load/speed (product safety) of passenger car tires. “Type Approval Certificate” is issued and an approval number is displayed on the sidewall of the tires if a positive result is granted in relevant tests which are obliged to be implemented by accredited institutions.

This regulation comprises agricultural tires. Tire Marking, Tire Dimension, Burst Resistance and Load/Speed (Only D class tires) tests are implemented by accredited institution. If the results are positive Type Approval Certificate arranged and related approval number mark on the tire’s sidewall.
This regulation applies to new pneumatic tires of classes C1 (Passenger car), C2 (Light Truck) and C3 (Truck & Bus) with regard to their sound emissions, rolling resistance, adhesion performance on wet surfaces and Snow Performance (only for tires that have 3MPSF marking). Tests are implemented by accredited institutions and if the results are positive, “Type Approval Certificate” is issued and S2WR1 marking can be displayed on the sidewall.

View the regulationPolycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are a group of over 100 different chemicals that are formed during the incomplete burning of coal, oil and gas, garbage or other organic compounds. PAHs are known for their carcinogenic, mutagenic and teratogenic properties. PAHs can be found in petrochemicals, rubber, plastics, lubricants, anti rust oil, paints, leather and other products. Rubber and plastics are high risk materials containing PAHs. Tire, electronics and toys are mostly affected by the restriction of PAHs in EU, German and US. EU REACH Annex XVII has placed a restriction on the use of 8 PAHs in tires and extender oil. Tires will not be allowed to be placed on EU market if 8 PAHs exceed certain concentration thresholds listed below. The restriction also applies to the marketing of tires
in EU. Benzo[a]pyrene (BaP);
Benzo[e]pyrene (BeP);
Benzo[a]anthracene (BaA);
Chrysen (CHR);
Benzo[b]fluoroanthene (BbFA);
Benzo[j]fluoroanthene (BjFA);
Benzo[k]fluoroanthene (BkFA);
Dibenzo[a,h]anthracene (DBAhA).
From 1 January 2010, extender oils shall not be placed on the market or used for production of tires, or parts of tires, if they contain: More than 1mg/kg of Benzo[a]pyrene (BaP), or More than 10mg/kg of the sum of all restricted PAHs This Regulation is applied from 2010 by Petlas Tire.

The Tyre Labelling Regulation has been in place since 2012 and provides consumers across Europe with essential information on fuel efficiency, safety, and noise by detailing the tyres’ rolling resistance, wet grip, and external rolling noise. This labelling system provides consumers with transparent and objective information about the quality of the tyres they buy. As a result, they can make better informed choices taking into consideration their type of driving, the climate and road conditions they are likely to encounter. Further to the European Commission’s proposal in May 2018, in November 2019, the European Institutions reached a provisional agreement on the review of the European Tyre Labelling Regulation and the final Regulation (EU 2020/740) was published on 5 June 2020. The new Regulation will enter into force on 25 June 2020 and it will apply from 1 May 2021. Until then, the current tyre label remains in use.
